The Sky Is the Limit

There are times in our lives where we dream about what we want to be someday and the life we envision for ourselves however sometimes those dreams seem to be fairy tales that will never be. Many of us are taught that hard work and determination will be the price we must pay to someday have the dreams become a reality and not an impossible story that seems like a Disney movie. For us, the challenge is staying on target, even over the rockiest of roads to achieve that dream we envision to one day become our life but how do we stay true to the dream as the road challenges us?

In our 20’s these ideas are idealistic and we find ourselves wanting to know why it isn’t happening now instead of later. In our 30’s we find ourselves more “realistic” that these dreams may be just that, dreams. When things begin to fall into place and the dreams appear on the horizon of life, for us to ride into the sunrise and seize the day, it may be frightening as much as it is exhilarating. We may find ourselves questioning if we can really do this or if we are fooling ourselves and have really faked our way to this moment without the skills to do the very thing we want to do. This, I have to say is normal and you are not alone in that moment when you begin to doubt yourself but I can tell you, you have no reason to doubt the dream you always knew would be your reality one day.

When these moments occur they tend to occur all at once. One minute you find yourself second guessing your path and whether you wondered down the wrong path and the next the path emerges from the forest to the beautiful vision you always had. As you continue on, more and more things begin to emerge and fall into place and, before you know it, you find yourself surrounded by the fruits of all your hard work. In that moment pause, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and acknowledge the journey and the reward for all that it is. Once you have done that, open your eyes, look to your future and walk briskly into the next chapter of your journey. This is the reward for all of that hard work, for the moments you second guessed your decisions, for the times that the path was covered in obstacles that made you want to give up and go back to the safe path that you left to achieve your dream.

As human beings, we have the flaws of doubt, uncertainty, fear in the unknown, fear of failure, fear of regret for what we didn’t do and fear of making a mistake when we do something unfamiliar. -All of these are not unique to one person verses another person. The difference between those who achieve their dream is they reached for the sky and KEPT reaching until they achieved it. They may have had those moments I mentioned but they kept reaching for the sky.

In my own life I have found myself in these very moments. There have been times I have had to pause and, instead of looking down, I looked straight ahead to the present because the demands of my life required me to focus on what was required in the here and now. I did not give up on what I was reaching for but I had to take a pause in the pursuit of what I was after. The funny thing is, if something is meant to be it will find away to be regardless of the challenges we might face. May grandma use to tell me patience was a virtue and she was right. At the time, and in others throughout my life, I did not want to be patient because I wanted to seize my dreams and make them a reality now but, in many cases, now was not the right time for the sky to be reached and the dream to become a reality. Never stop reaching for the sky because the only limit you have in life to achieving your dreams is the sky itself. If you think about it, there is nothing between you and the sky but distance and determination. This is the only challenge we face in life however we put an invisible ceiling between us and the sky that limits us only because WE placed it there. So what is stoping you from reaching the limitless sky?
